DG 2010-2011 Graeme Lukey

District Governor 2010-11 Graeme Lukey welcomes you to his District in Victoria.

This Lions District covers around 73 Lions, Leos and Lioness Clubs throughout metropolitan and country Victoria.

From Melbourne CBD to Robinvale in the North, to Heathcote in the East, Hopetoun in the West and the major provincial cities of Bendigo and Ballarat.

Photo above shows new President of the Melbourne University Leos Club, Shaw Jhee Teoh with Sam Tung of the Melbourne Chinese Club with his son Zachery. Picture taken at the Club's Charter Night on 14th August 2010.

To the end of August, 11 official club visits plus a Lioness club have been completed.

There is no doubt that the District Governor is
privileged to have the opportunity to share time with club members and to experience the diverse nature of individual clubs and to learn in detail the depth and breadth of service being performed in the respective communities.

It is simply not possible to record the good works done by Lions.

Righteous Pups Update

DennisDennis is one of a litter of 7 pups, bought at a cost of $1500 each. By the time he has completed his training at around 18 months of age, and is ready to be placed with an autistic child from a needy family near a club within District V1-4, he will have cost Righteous Pups $29,000.00

During those 18 months he will be placed with a foster family, and will attend "school" Monday to Friday. Our District is supporting Dennis during his training.

Righteous Pups

Righteous PupsBendigo Lions Club sponsored a successful motion to Lions District V1-4 at its convention in October 2009.

This motion was that Lions should assist the Righteous Pups Organisation.

Righteous Pups suports the training of Austistic Assistance Dogs.

The term "autism" was first used in 1943 by Dr Leo Kanner. He published a paper about a group of children he had observed in his clinic. These children were unlike most others - withdrawn, non-verbal, with bizarre ritualistic and repetitive behaviours.

We would ask each Lions Club, when organising its financial plan for the next disbursement, to ensure the expansion of the training program for these special dogs. Through our support more children with autism will benefit from a special assistance dog.

The Environment

GreenLions Clubs are known for serving the community as well as organizing projects and activities to raise money for the community.

The Lions, officially in 1972, made a commitment to servicing the community in environmental related projects.

These projects are aimed to improve the quality of air, water and land as well as protect and preserve local flora and fauna.

Other areas that the clubs seek to assist with are recycling efforts. These projects were initiated in conformance to the Lions Policy Statement on the Human Environment.

An environmental promotional slideshow was presented at the 2009 Tooleybuc District Convention and can be viewed by clicking on the hyperlink.
