Social get together - February 2013 "A pleasant sunday afternoon"
Sunday February 17th. And so it came to pass that some fun was had!! It might have been a little warm after a few ends, but that iced drink at the bar was lovely.
A good meal for lunch with plenty of food, a couple of cool drinks and some jokes and discussion. Then some team work with the balloons brought out the competitive spirit. Amazing how a 10-15 minute challenge gets the talking levels up and some action. Winners are grinners, and the old saying recalled: "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". But all agreed it was some good fun. So, ...to the bowls and expert tuition first on the do's and don'ts. Not sure it made a difference really, but it too was fun and the competition started to get serious. Doutta Galla Terry appeared to have the best action, Stan seemed to put a few in the sand box, but Glenroy Jeff and Taylors Lakes Jackie vied for the nearest the pin....Jackie by about 1/2 a lawn bowl. Every one seemed to be have a good time for the 3 teams that ventured on to the rink. Thanks to Marie and Kevin at the "Catering Wizards" (www.thecateringwizards.com.au) and the guys at the Glenroy Bowling Club for their assistance and good fun. Thanks also to the Lions who participated....a hardy bunch.

A tremendously successful night at the Gala Dinner raising funds for the 2013 Kokoda project for youth at some local schools. A big auction, great interview with some kids who, along with Councillor James, have just returned from the trip. A great project you'll hopefully hear more about is the Essendon Keilor College Vietnam project. The students travel to Vietnam at their own cost, and construct a village house using materials funded by Glenroy Lions. What a fantastic outcome for the village and a learning experience for the kids.
Glenroy also has been busy with the Pascoe Vale Girls college raising $4.5k on the Daffodil/Pink Ribbon day. Heaps of other activities.
The 2014 Sydenham Kite festival, which Taylors Lakes auspices and assists with, was a great day with estimates of 500+ attending. We look forward to next year growing further.

A fundraiser has been run over 2013 for a young lad in a wheel chair. The club presented Daniel and his family with a cheque for $2500 towards his new wheel chair at a dinner in March 2014. A fine young lad, we all wish him well for the future.

These have been delivered to needy local children through the Salvation Army and Northpoint Centre.
